When you’re creating your driveway, there’s 2 options yo have: Either concrete or pavers. Now, concrete has been the most commonly used material- it’s not as long lasting and unfortunately it can crack after some time.

Type of driveway
First look at your driveway and consider- is it steep or curved? If so then you should go with something like the example shown here, a herringbone pattern- not only are they classy, they also hold up more- so they’re stronger. You can even get them slip resistant so you don’t slip when it’s raining outside.
Then of course- how many cars are you parking there at a time normally? Since the weight and the load will determine what you should be getting since not every kind of paver can withstand the pressures and the movement of the vehicles.
Paver Patterns
When you’re installing pavers on the driveway, you’ve got basically two options: slab or interlocking. And even before you do that, you’ve got one thing you’ve got to take into consideration- the weight of your cars! Cars are obviously very heavy, and if you don’t do things right the first time around, those pavers are going to start moving around, cracking, and disintegrating later on.
If you’re looking for something that’s strong and very durable, use thicker pavers — at least 60mm thick — and lay them in a pattern that’s inherently strong, like herringbone or basket weave. That will withstand whatever you give it. Basket weave even provides you with room for creativity in the look — alternate bricks or color and it’s clean.
Now if you’re thinking about something as basic as stretcher bond or stack bond, that’s okay too — just have the installer set the edges in cement where tires will rotate. That’s what holds it in place.
Types of vehicle
Not only do we have to think cosmetics, and how beautiful your driveway paver is going to look, but we also have to think functionality; what are the size of the cars you’re planning to keep on top of these pavers? The size of the tires, the oil that might spill, all of this has to be taken into consideration, and if it’s used by many cars- you’d more than likely want darker pavers to hide any oil spills and tire marks so they look clean.
Now I know, lighter pavers are actually pretty in demand- so what you can do is get two different colors and install them in whatever design pattern you’d like.
Water problems
Does your area get rain very often? Because if it does you need to consider permeable pavers. This actually reduces water on the driveway itself, and you can use an aggegate finish paver to prevent slips if your driveway is pretty steep.
Paver thickness
There’s differrent thicknesses you can choose from, but ideally most people go for 50mm or 60mm, which is enough to hold up practically any vehicle. Now in the backyard- you’d want to go with around 40mm, which is cheaper but it can actually crack over time. Commercial driveways use 60mm since they want to use big trucks, cranes and industrial equipment normally.
